| Full Name: Air Support Signal Troop |
| Information: |
Air Support Signal Troop was in support of the Canadian Joint Air Training Centre located in Rivers Manitoba.
Gerry Watt writes "The mission of the TP was to provide point to point comms by voice or CW and (HF)
and to provide ground to air comms on VHF & UHF. The troop worked with Airborne
School, Air Supply School, And TTIS, (tactical & technical investigation section) supplying
the ground air link during air drops which were all training drops. about 80% of the troop
had their wings and jumped with Airborne school and TTIS. We also supplied the same
comms for FAC training (Forward Air Controllers) which was run by the GTW(ground
training wing). When the powers that were had training exercises in Shilo,Wainwright and
Gagetown the troop attended providing the same comms when aircraft were present.
As for the individuals in the troop , taking parachute training , it was strictly up to the
person -- $30 bucks a month, and when you were only making $100. a month, a 30%
increase looked pretty good." |
