| 70 Communication Group, quartered at Ortona Barracks, in Oakville, Ontario, was a unit of the Regular Force and allocated to Canadian Forces Communication Command when it was created on 1 November 1966. The communication group was to procure and manage secure land communication services for elements of the Department of National Defence while also providing training and support services to Communication Reserve Units. 70 Communication Group supported Central Region Operations (Militia) and administered operational control over line detachments at London, Hamilton and Toronto. On 1 July 1990 70 Group assumed responsibilities for 763 (Ottawa) Regiment and the Reserve Electronic Warfare Squadron at Kingston. During the Gulf War it deployed two squadrons for communications support. 70 Communication Group Headquarters was later located at Trenton, Ontario but is currently in Kingston, Ontario. |
