Information:
On 1 May 1972 the former civilian operated military communications system on the West Coast became a military unit, with 747 Communication Squadron given responsibility by Communication Command. The squadron was under the operational control of 74 Communication Group, and its primary role was to provide strategic communications support to several bases and units: HMCS Naden, 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, MARPAC Headquarters, and several supply depots and training ranges. The squadron was lodged at CFB Esquimalt. It disbanded on 19 July 1993.
