The role of a Signal Sub-Section for Heavy Artillery Group in the First World War was to provide communications for Heavy Artillery assigned at the Corps level. As the number of artillery groups within a corps was not fixed, the establishment was kept separate from the Corps Signal Company War Establishment and the required number of sub-sections would be attached to the company as needed.
